Hemsö develops schools in Norrköping

- Non-regulatory information

Hemsö is constructing and converting properties into schools in Sandbyhov, Norrköping. The project encompasses 10,250 sqm and the total investment amounts to approximately SEK 260 million.

The two existing nursing homes, Ekhöjden and Apelgården, will be converted into schools for years F–6 and 7–9 respectively. In parallel, a new building will be constructed that will have classrooms for teaching crafts, music and home economics. The schools will be able to take around 750 pupils. The Municipality of Norrköping has signed a 25-year lease for the premises.

For some time, Hemsö has been working together with the municipality to develop Sandbyhov and to replace the old hospital area with a new mixed-use development comprising premises for public services and flats. Development started in 2015 with the construction of a new nursing home.

“The construction and refurbishment of these schools comprises the second phase of the development of the Sandbyhov area. At the end of 2017, the nursing home, which was part of the first phase, will be ready for occupancy. The plans moving forward include continued investments in, for example, a health centre, sheltered housing and another nursing home,” says Jonas Jalkander, Head of Hemsö’s Region North.

The project will start in 2017 and is expected to be ready for occupancy in time for the autumn term 2019.
